Tosia the jellyfish – free crochet pattern

Some time ago my friends asked me if I could crochet a kitty cat for their younger daughter. I thought “why not? another WIP, yeah!”. I found a wonderful Frida the friendly cat pattern at Michelle’s Bunnies and Yarn and made a choice of yarn from my enormous stash. And then, when the time came and I started to crochet, I thought it would be nice to make something for the elder girl as well. This is how I created Tosia the jellyfish. A crochet pattern available below.

TOSIA THE JELLYFISH - FREE CROCHET PATTERN

A few words before you start reading. I made this in two evening but were it not for my kids, it would have taken only 1 to accomplish. Because of my 3 month-old baby I didn’t take any photos (which I regret) but this is so simple… See for yourself!

Materials:
  • 1 skein of YarnArt Jeans Plus 15 (colour A)
  • 1 skein of YarArt Jeans Plus 76 (colour B)

  • safety eyes of 22 mm
  • stuffing of your choice
  • some black thread for embroidering the mouth
Remarks:
  • this patter is written in US terminlogy
  • the pattern goes in spiral rounds, so you need to put a stitch marker in the last stitch of the round
  • eyes should be put between rounds 30 and 31, 17 stitches apart
  • it is easier to embroider the mouth immediately after finishing the head
  • the tentacles can be made in any amount (I do have something of an OCD, so made 4 tentacles in each colour :D)
  • the colours are changed every 5 rounds
  • the bottom should be sewed to the head only AFTER attaching the tentacles to it

Fasten off leaving a long end for sewing.

Tentacles

Tentacle 1 (make as many as you wish in colours of your choice):

60 ch, inc in all st. Fasten off leaving some for attaching the entacle to the bottom.

Tentacle 2 (make as many as you wish in colours of your choice):

55 ch. Fasten off leaving some for attaching the entacle to the bottom.
Assembly:
Tentacles:

Attach the tentacles to the bottom with the long ends. You may attach them to the bottom as you like. You don’t need to weave the ends in, as they will be inside the toy anyway.

Sewing th ehead and the bottom together:

Using the long end, sew the bottom to the BLO of r 39 in 2/3 of length. Then you should stuff the toy generously and only then you may sew the rest of the stitches. Weave the end.

That’s it! Enjoy!
You are very welcome to use the colour of your own choice, be it only one colour or more than just two. The pattern is so simple that there shouldn’t be any problem with modifying it. Good luck!
